Interview with Nicolas Babin and review of his excellent book “The talking dog: Immersion in new technologies”

During two tech events in Paris these last two weeks, I had the opportunity to meet again with great pleasure my friend Nicolas Babin, expert in new technologies, speaker and digital transformation influencer on social medias.

In addition to the good times spent together during these meetings, we discussed about his career, his experience in artificial intelligence and too about his excellent book “The talking dog: Immersion in new technologies“, which I recommend to everyone, from 7 to 99 years old! (and by the way, one of my favorite books about AI and robots).

Pierre Pinna: Who are you?
Nicolas Babin: I am Nicolas Babin. I have more than 33 years of experience in new technologies. I have worked in the United States, England, Belgium, Japan, Germany and France. In particular, I was General Manager of Sony Entertainment Robot Europe where I was in charge of marketing and managing the Artificial Intelligence Robot, AIBO.

P.P.: What is the name of your book and what is it about?
N.B.: The book is called “The Talking Dog, an immersion in new technologies”. It deals with the evolution of new technologies from the end of the 80’s to today and beyond. Indeed, I took the liberty of analyzing the trends that we can see until 2025. The book also explains how these new technologies work but in everyday terms. It’s an easy read, ideal for vacations.

P.P.: Is it a book for everyone?
N.B.: Yes, I wanted this book to speak to everyone. I have explained in very simple terms the new technologies with crunchy examples on the launch of some of them. I have very positive feedback from 7 year old children who have read it as well as from older people.

N.B.: Yes, absolutely, after the original French version, the English one is just out this juky 2021, and then the Portuguese edition will follow.

A l’occasion de deux événements tech en présentiel à Paris ces deux dernières semaines, j’ai eu l’occasion de revoir avec grand plaisir mon camarade Nicolas Babin (photo ci-contre à Paris-juin 2021-), expert en nouvelles technologies, speaker et influencer sur la transformation digitale sur les réseaux sociaux.

Outre les bons moments passés ensemble durant ces meetings, nous avons discuté de sa carrière, son expérience dans l’intelligence artificielle et de son excellent livre “Le chien qui parlait“, que je conseille à tous, de 7 à 99 ans ! (et au passage, un des mes livres “coup de cœur” en ce qui concerne l’IA et les robots).

Pierre Pinna : Qui êtes- vous ?
Nicolas Babin : Je suis Nicolas Babin. J’ai plus de 33 ans d’expérience dans les nouvelles technologies. J’ai travaillé aux Etats-Unis, en Angleterre, en Belgique, au Japon, en Allemagne et en France. Notamment, j’ai été directeur général de Sony Entertainment Robot Europe où je m’occupais de commercialiser et gérer le robot doté d’Intelligence Artificielle, AIBO.

P.P. : Comment s’appelle votre livre et de quoi traite t’il ?
N.B. : Le livre s’appelle Le chien qui parlait, une immersion dans les nouvelles technologies. Il traite de l’évolution des nouvelles technologies depuis la fin des années 80 jusqu’à aujourd’hui et au-delà. En effet, je me suis permis d’analyser les tendances que nous pouvons voir jusqu’en 2025. Le livre explique également comment ces nouvelles technologies fonctionnent mais dans des termes de tous les jours. C’est un livre qui se lit facilement, idéal pour les vacances.

P.P. : Est-ce un livre pour tous ?
N.B. : Oui, j’ai voulu que ce livre parle à tout le monde. J’ai expliqué dans des termes très simples les nouvelles technologies avec des exemples croustillants sur le lancement de certaines. J’ai des retours très positifs d’enfants de 7 ans qui l’ont lu ainsi que d’autres personnes plus âgées.
