Responsible AI, Ethics, … and Business
Is ResponsibleAI just optional in the business land?
So,
on the subject of responsible AI & ethics… (which some find these things useless… or too progressive, too left-wing, or even, more “amusing”, um :((( – too… “Marxist” (really!🙄)
👇
A true story that happened to me yesterday afternoon…
I had a meeting with a potential client to implement an AI model for his company…
I proposed a solution based on Machine Learning, combined with an expert system, so designed with symbolic AI (or called too Logic AI, just an old style AI, um, but a good style ;)) , all designed to eliminate (as much as possible) the biases inherent in the very structure of machine learning… A fairly effective option for building a responsible AI model.
So… after my presentation, the guy owner of the company said to me: “You know, I don’t care about ethics or responsible AI, all I want is about your proposal to make me more money!”
Um… well, okay…
So… I said to him: You obviously don’t love so much ethics, okay, I’m not here to judge you. Although for me, ethics is important.
Simply, to get a competitive advantage, apart from your preferences on ethics, here I’m talking about capitalism and the market, so you’ll understand well here what I’m going to tell you since we’re talking about business, so for all business leaders, like you, you must, to make more money, as is your will, you must absolutely prioritize customer concerns, integrate responsible AI into the development cycle and communicate how AI-related risks are mitigated. It’s that simple. And what’s more, you’re going to need people to believe you on this communication, otherwise you’ll tip over into “Ethics Washing”, and then it gets worse for your company’s image. It’s that simple. Many people are afraid of AI, and rightly so. Reassure them by developing a responsible AI system, and then you’ll make more money!
…
… Do you want to know the end of this story?!… Ok, you want 😁😁
In the end, he didn’t understand, but at all, we won’t be working together, I know it’ll be worse for him than for us ;))
Yes, responsible AI isn’t just an option! It’s just indispensable, both in terms of business and ethics, just clear, no doubt, whether you’re doing business or just being human! Cc @anIs #ResponsibleAI just optional in the business land?
